Home Style Laundry: A Seaside Laundromat’s Story

On the corner of Main and Chestnut in the seaside community of Gloucester, MA stands a familiar sight that has been serving the community for over 45 years: Home Style Laundry. Over the years, many families, individuals, and businesses have used its laundry services to maintain a clean wardrobe and fresh stock of linens.

How It All Began

One day in the 1970s Gordon College Dean Richard Gross made a key decision that would add a new dimension to his family's life. He bought a laundromat. Upon opening the doors, his son Tyler was employed at 14 years old to fulfill wash and fold orders among other responsibilities.

The Family Legacy Continues

Since Home Style Laundry opened its doors in 1979, Tyler Gross has taken the reigns of the family business and continues to be hands-on in the family business, washing and folding for local residents, vacationers, and the local businesses including Andrea Gail fisherman. In his 45 years in the laundry business, he has delivered to countless customers excellent service, superior results, and most importantly a friendly and professional demeanor that makes his patrons feel at-home.

And this family legacy continues. Tyler's sons Jordan and Toby also grew up in the family business, learning the business from inside out. Because of the father-son leadership and management, Home Style Laundry continues to excel in delivering sparkling results and superb customer service.

Home is where the heart is and also where the laundry is. The Home Style Laundry family knows that time is precious and finite and less could be spent on chores such as laundry. Through Dean and Tyler Gross’s leadership, the family business has thrived. Many laundromats exist with self-service options, but none truly exist like Home Style Laundry. Every customer who visits the family laundromat is greeted and treated just as such, and their fluff and fold orders are handled with the professional expertise one would expect from a commercial giant but with the down-home, no-nonsense attention to detail that personal laundry, from the socks to a child's favorite stuffed animal, deserves. Everything they do is to deliver fresh results that help customers reclaim their time.

A Family Business that Serves Other Businesses

As mentioned, Mr. Gross early in his laundry career washed laundry for local fisherman. Home Style Laundry continues to wash and fold for local fisherman but also washes for many local businesses beyond the fishing industry. Customers include local hotels, vacation rental property owners, restaurants, and many more enterprises whom continue to benefit from the linen, towel, and uniform laundry services of Home Style Laundry.
